Dr. Mark Wronkiewicz is a Data Scientist at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology working in the Machine Learning and Instrument Autonomy (MLIA) group. He is interested in using machine learning and autonomy to advance robotic and crewed exploration of the solar system. He currently leads a team building autonomy software to detect and characterize cell-sized life for the broader Ocean Worlds Life Surveyor (OWLS) project.

Prior to JPL, Mark worked at Development Seed, which is focused on problems in the development and humanitarian sectors. He used machine learning and cloud computing tools to build maps for various problems. A couple examples include autonomously locating high voltage infrastructure in satellite images and identifying buildings vulnerable to natural disasters in streetview images. Before Development Seed, Mark earned a PhD in neuroscience conducting research on brain-computer interfaces using a variety of tools from neurophysiology, classical machine learning, and scientific computing.
